Personalized Adaptive Learning – Conducting Assessments in 145 identified schools (PAL labs)
In the reference read above, Development Innovation Lab (DIL) as a part of educational initiative of implementing PAL, assessments will be conducted to understand student learning across various grades. As a part of this, DIL is permitted to conduct tablet-based endline assessments with students in grades 6 to 9 in the 140 research schools and 5 Pilot schools for endline assessment.
Further, as a part of research activities for this academic year, Maths Assessments will be conducted for Classes 6 th -9 th classes in 145 identified schools in 9 districts by DIL-Chicago team between MidJanuary to March 2025. It is further informed that these Assessments would give a sense of direction about PAL program and inform us about the possible need for any changes in the approach.
Key Information related to the assessments:PAL labs
1. Assessment Period: Mid-January to March 2025
2. Participating Grades: 6 to 9
3. Duration: Approximately 1.5 hours per section per grade
4. Method: Tablet-based assessments (offline mode)
5. Students will be provided with an incentive on the scheduled assessment day.
6.Key requirements:
a. Two classrooms each with a seating capacity of 40 students
b. The classrooms should have interactive flat panels in working condition.
The following guidelines to be implemented at schools while conducting assessments PAL labs
1. Coordinate with the team of surveyors authorized by the Development Innovation Lab and contracted with DAI Advisory, who will contact school HMs 1-2 weeks prior to their visit to confirm the date of visit to your school. The surveyors will also call 1 day prior to the assessment date for final confirmation.
2. A team of 5 enumerators will visit the school with a copy simultaneously, from multiple classes/ sections.
3. Ensure maximum student attendance on the scheduled assessment day.
4. Provide two well-lit classrooms, each with a seating capacity of 40 students for students to take the assessment.
5. Teachers are requested to step out of the classrooms during the assessment period.
6. Teachers should not assist students during the assessments to ensure unbiased results.
7. The team of surveyors will be present in the school from 10 am in the morning to a maximum of 5 pm in the evening.
8. The team of surveyors will manage all aspects of the assessment, including providing and operating the tablets.
9. The assessment will be based on the schools’ Math’s curriculonly and no additional preparation will be necessary.
Therefore, the District Educational Officers and Additional Project
Coordinators of Samagra Shiksha, Chittoor, SPSR Nellore, East Godavari,Prakasam, Nandyal, Annamayya, Tirupati, Vizianagaram and Bapatla districts are requested to cooperate with the research team during the assessments without any disturbance to the regular academic activities and there is no financial implication to the department in this regard.
