The Name of the District was Ongole District to begin with. It was renamed as Prakasam District in 1972 in memory of the eminent freedom fighter, later Chief Minister of the composite Madras State and the first Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh State, late Sri Tanguturi "Prakasam Panthulu, "Andhra Kesari" who was born at Vinodarayuni palem, a hamlet of Kanuparthi village of Naguluppala Padu Mandal of this district.

Free and compulsory education to all children up to the age fourteen is constitutional commitment in India. The Parliament of India has passed Right to Education Act in 2009 through which education has become fundamental right of all children of age group 6-14 year. This site presents details of recent initiatives undertaken in the field of Education in District. It presents comprehensive statistics/publications on educational data. The Department is meant for to monitor the Educational Institutions under all managements up to the secondary level. To provide quality Education to the children, To provide basic eminities in the schools through various schemes. To provide MDM to the children in the schools. etc., Conduct of Examinations like SSC, DIET CET, Vocational etc., Recruitment of Teachers through DSC etc., Teachers service matters i.e., Transfers Notification for Consultants of Technical Support Group(TSG)

The District Educational Office, Prakasam is under Ministry of Education government of Andhra Pradesh. Its main responsibility is to ensure that Children receive good quality Education and care across the district. District Educational Office headed by District Educational Officer(DEO) and his team of Dy.E.Os and D.I.O.S collectively share their expertise to support service provision and maintain close communication with all Schools across the District. DEO's office with a task or function that ensures high quality of the educators training and level of understanding to achieve high quality education.

Vision and Mission::
    The Department of School Education is the largest among the 200 departments in the State. The department focuses on primary and secondary education and arranges to train teachers. The objectives of the Department of School Education are:
  • Provide access to primary education for all children in the age group of 5-15 years
  • Ensure the enrollment of children in schools
  • Ensure that the children do not discontinue primary education
  • Maintain quality standards in education within the State
  • Provide mid-day meals to children in primary and upper primary schools that fall under the government, local bodies and aided managements
  • Provide free text books to children of classes I to V studying in the schools under the government, local bodies and aided managements
  • Provide free text books to all the children of classes VI to X belonging to Backward Classes (BC), Scheduled Caste (SC.) and Scheduled Tribe (ST.) studying in the schools under the government, local bodies and aided managements
  • Provide training to the teachers to help them upgrade their knowledge and skills, thereby ensure quality in teaching
  • Strengthen and maintain standards of Pre-service Teacher Education Programmes to ensure quality education
  • Ensure community participation in strengthening the school education system within the State

SCHEME OF RMSA(Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan):

"Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan" is a Centrally Sponsored Scheme. In our State this project is being implemented from the academic year 2009-10 to 2019-20.

Rastriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA) Universalisation of Secondary Education: Secondary Education-MIS Like Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), the Department of School Education and Literacy of the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India is in the process of launching Rastriya Madhyamic Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA) with an aim to achieve Universal Access and Quality Secondary Education. This section of Education for all in India presents details of activities that have been launched recently in this direction. Under RMSA, the responsibility to develop Secondary-Education Management Information system (SE-MIS) is given to the Department of Educational Planning, National University of Educational Planning and Administration (NUEPA), New Delhi. In 2006, a CABE sub-committee on Secondary Education was constituted. This part of site presents all about recent developments with regard to Secondary Education in India.

SCHEME OF MODEL SCHOOLS: SCHEME FOR SETTING UP OF MODEL SCHOOLS:
Concept:

Basically a model school will have infrastructure and facilities of the same standard as in a Kendriya Vidyalayas and with stipulations on pupil -teacher ratio, ICT usage, holistic educational environment, appropriate curriculum and emphasis on output and outcome. Some of the key features of a model school will be: Education provided in a Model school should be holistic and integral touching upon physical, emotional and aesthetic development in addition to academics. Necessary infrastructure will be provided in such schools not only for satisfying teaching needs, but also for sports and co-curricular activities. There will be sufficient scope for sports, recreation and outdoor activities. Facilities like play ground, gardens, auditorium etc. will be provided in Model schools. These schools will have adequate ICT infrastructure, Internet connectivity and full time computer teachers. The Teacher Pupil Ratio should not exceed 1:25 and the classrooms will be spacious enough to accommodate at least 30 students. However, classroom-students ratio will not exceed 1:40. These schools will be provided with Arts and Music Teachers besides subject specific teachers as per the usual norms. These schools will also create facility for activities emphasizing Indian heritage and art & craft. Special emphasis will be given on teaching of Science, Maths and English. If required, bridge-courses may be introduced for weak students. The school curricula include the material/items that inculcate leadership qualities, team spirit, participation abilities, development of soft skills and ability to deal with real life situations. Health Education and health check up will be introduced in these schools. A good library with books and magazines for students and teachers will be provided. Field trips and educational tours will be an integral part of the curriculum. Medium of instruction will be left to State Governments. However, special emphasis will be given on English teaching & spoken English. Model schools will have appropriate pace setting activities so that schools in the neighborhood can benefit.

Objectives:
  • To have at least one good quality Secondary School in every EBB.
  • To have a pace setting role for these schools.
  • To try out innovative curriculum and pedagogy.
  • To try out innovative evaluation and school governance.
  • To give access to quality Secondary Education to the talented students in rural areas
Implementation:

Model Schools will have classes from VI to XII, each class having two sections with state syllabus. Medium of instruction and Curriculum Medium of instruction for these schools will be English. Three Language Formula which is in existence in the State will be followed. Special emphasis will also be given in teaching of Science and Mathematics. Teaching Methodologies will help students to improve their analytical and critical thinking abilities. Along with scholastic subjects, the new scholastic subjects like Physical Education and Yoga, Moral Education, Work Experience, Projects etc., will be implemented so that the holistic approach has to be attained. For the purpose of calculating the financial requirements, the non-recurring cost for setting up a school on KV template with an estimated cost of Rs. 3.02 crore. The recurring cost is around Rs. 0.75 crore per annum is provided for each school. Out of 737 EBB Mandals Government of India sanctioned 355 Model schools in the first phase during the year 2010 - 11.,

MID DAY MEAL SCHEME:

Mid Day Meal Scheme was launched by the Government of India which helps poor pupils from rural and urban areas and resolves issues of lack of nutrition, food security and access to education. With the help of this programme free lunch is provided on school working days for children in Primary and Upper Primary Classes in Government, Government Aided, Local Body i.e supported under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan(SSA) . The Scheme was launched in January, 2003 for the children studying in Primary Schools (Classes I to V) and in October 2008, the same was extended to the children studying in Upper Primary Schools (Classes VI to VIII) and to the children studying in High Schools (Classes IX & X) with 100% state funds. This was further extended to the children studying in Special Schools under NCLP from the academic year of 2010-11.

District Information System for Education (DISE) Publications::
U-DISE is one of the major initiatives to improve educational management information system in India which is under implementation in all the districts (664) of the country. More than 1.50 million schools imparting elementary & secondary education have been covered under U-DISE which also maintains comprehensive profile of more than 7.2 million teachers. As a part of dissemination policy, NUEPA used to publish tent publications in a year most of which are presented in this section of the website for the last ten years. Out of School Children: The District Collector instructed to survey the present status of OSC in Badipilustundi programme from 15.06.2016 to 21.06.2016. After completion of the Badipilustundi programme it is the district status of out of school children. Total OSC Enrolled Migration Balance 7599 3247 2403 1949
Madarasas :
The Govt. approved 19 Vidya Volunteers to the 7 Madarasas as per selected by District Selection Committee.
NRSTC::

The Govt. approved 55 Vidya Volunteers to 52 NRST centres as per selected by District Selection Committee. Seasonal Hostels 65 Seasonal Hostels are identified by the H.Ms through Mandal Educational Officers in the 14 Mandals 42 Mandal Educational Officers are reported to the DPO no need the migrated family children Seasonal Hostels in their Mandals. Paper notification given on 26.10.2016 for calling application from NGOs who want to run the Seasonal Hostels as per SSA Guidelines. Status of Uniforms : For the academic year 2016-17 an amount of Rs.879.05 lakhs were proposed for procurement of uniforms to all eligible children i.e 219763 studying from 1st to 8th classes in Government schools.Already 50% of the amount released to APCO and stitching process also allotted to APCO by State Project Director, AP SarvaSikshaAbhiyan, Hyderabad.

Status on Children with Special Needs(Divyang) :

A brief note on CwSN : 6967 CwSN (Children with Special Needs) were identified in Prakasam District for the year 2016-17. At present 107 Inclusive Education Resource Teachers (IERTs) are appointed to provide service to the CwSN in the district and five(5) IERT posts are vacant. Notification issued for recruitment of existing vacancies.

Physiotherapy Services: The file for engagement of 19 Physiotherapists are reengaged from 28.09.2016 by the permission of Hon’ble District Collector & Chairman of AP SarvaSikshaAbhiyan, Prakasam District.

Escort Allowance: It is provided Escort Allowance to 760 Children with Special Needs who need escort support to attend their schools @ Rs.250/- per month per child for 10 months. Present released an amount of Rs5.11 lakhs for 649 children for 4 months.

Transport Allowance: It is provided Transport Allowance to 920 MR/HI/VI/TB children who came to get various trainings in IERCs & Non-IERCs @ Rs.300/- per month per child for 10 months.

KGBV Activities : There are 37 KGBVs in Prakasam District. Each KGBV has enrolled 200 Girls. In 37 KGBVs total strength was 7440.2 pairs of uniforms will be provided to 7440 girl students for the academic year 2016-17.Student Academic Monitoring System Software is being implemented in all KGBVs to gauge the performance of Teachers and Student and also to obtain MIS.
